Pieces of Gold

On Wednesday, March 1st, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. the Barton Pond chorus performed in the annual Pieces of Gold show hosted by the Wake County Public School System. At the show they performed Rachel Platten's "Fight Song" led by Cara Hahn, a fifth grader at Barton Pond. They did an amazing job at the event and enjoyed participating in this wonderful production. The Barton Pond music department would like to thank all of the Barton Pond parents, chaperones, volunteers, teachers, and students who supported the chorus during this event. Below you can see pictures of the chorus at the event and teachers and students who supported the chorus during this exciting time. We are looking forward to participating in the event in the future!

Spring Music Clubs

Congratulations to the students who joined our music clubs for the spring semester! I am looking forward to having amazing performances with the students in our music department in March and May. The students in our music program worked hard to put on an amazing performance for the winter concert, and I know that these students will do the same. There is absolutely no way that you can stop the Barton Pond school of rock!

2022 Barton Pond Winter Concert

The students in the Barton Pond music clubs and our 3rd grade student body did an amazing job at our inaugural concert! Our first concert was held on Thursday, December 15th, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. in our school's gym. The Barton Pond chorus and the 3rd graders performed the musical The Grumps of Ring-A-Ding-Town by John Jacobson and John Higgins. Songs from the musical included "Hear Them Ring", "Grumpy", "Snowmageddon", "Together", and "The Sound in Your Heart". There were also performances by the Barton Pond percussion ensemble, ukulele club, and the 4th and 5th grade recorder ensemble. Below you can see pictures from the concert and the stage that was decorated by the Barton Pond art club led by our phenomenal art teacher, Mrs. Annie Pakes. We want to give special thanks to our accompanist, Danielle DeSwert Hahn, our mistress of ceremony and assistant principal, Mrs. Kortney Howerton, the Barton Pond PTA, all parent and teacher volunteers, Mrs. Pakes and the Barton Pond art club, the Leesville Road High Tri-M Music Honor Society, the Barton Pond custodial staff, Gusty Flow Films, and the family and friends of our bullfrogs. We are looking forward to a great spring concert!

Number Drummer at Barton Pond

Today at Barton Pond we had a special performance by Mr. Troy Kryzalka also known as the Number Drummer! We want to give special thanks to the Barton Pond PTA and the United Arts Council of Raleigh for making this happen. He showed us how to use math to create music. He also taught us about character strengths like kindness and perseverance. Mrs. Pakes, our art teacher, and I had a great time reminding students to follow LEAP expectations at this event with the fun chant and drum beat featured in the video seen below. The students and staff had an amazing time at this event and we hope that the Number Drummer will be back soon!

October P2 Assembly

Leeah Swen and Cara Hahn did a great job performing at our October P2 assembly. Leah led the 4th and 5th grade students in singing "Count on Me" by Bruno Mars. Cara performed an amazing opening violin solo for the assembly. Below, you can see Cara performing and both students holding their certificates after the event. We hope that these students keep making wonderful music and that they keep up the great work!

September P2 Assembly

At our first P2 assembly of the year, Cara Hahn and Griffin Rhyne demonstrated leadership by leading the 4th and 5th grade classes in singing "Be Kind" by Joe Rielly. The song illustrates ways that students can show their friends and family that other people matter. The other people mindset is one of the character strengths that we have been discussing at Barton Pond. Cara and Griffin did an amazing job. Keep up the great work! Below you can see Cara and Griffin after the assembly.
